TaxBit, a tax and accounting software company, grew from 50 to 260 employees across four cities in just one year. To maintain their culture during this rapid expansion, 70 employees participated in focus groups to establish five core cultural principles.
Through intimate group discussions from May to July 2022, team members from Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. explored questions about their best work, areas for improvement, and aspirations. This inclusive process involved employees regardless of their tenure.
The five established cultural principles are:
- Maximize Impact
- Owner's Mindset
- Transparency
- Optimistic Realist
- Win Together

Six company values icons
These principles now guide TaxBit's operations, from hiring practices to client interactions. "Transparency came up in literally every single conversation," noted Richelle Medellín, Head of People and Culture.
